Great Ways To Get Free Traffic On Your Web Site

The human mind thinks in pictures, so a good video will “stick in the mind” of people generally, particularly if it a little “out there” and different to some of the boring video “sales pitches” that are easy to find online.

Of course the Video should offer relevant and useful content to the viewer as well, so make sure that it is interesting and fun to watch as well as being relevant.

Having relevant, great quality, and useful content is vital to your online success.

If your website is all about dog training, and the video you produce is about computers, well your probably not going to get a great response are you? Unless you happen to be selling a method to train dogs to use computers, in which case that would be a great idea! Showing a dog “typing” on a computer! It’s vital that you provide relevant, and useful content and give the viewer a reason to take action (hopefully visiting your site).

Once they get to your website (assuming the video is posted on YouTube or another video content sites) then your other marketing methods kick into gear. Obviously you can also place Video on your website in which case it’s more of an “added-value” to keep the visitor on your website. That said more and more Internet Marketers are “getting” Video.

The use of Video includes things like uploading content to youtube.com (you have heard of them, right? Google paid $1.3Billion dollars to purchase the company!). Every man (and his dog) is uploading video content to YouTube, so why not you?

Now if you not as good looking as me, don’t worry you can still make a successful video. You see the video doesn’t necessarily need to show you in the picture, it could be a PowerPoint presentation, a web page presentation, or demonstration of some software.

What you are trying to do with Video is capture the interest of the viewer. You need to make a connection with him/her so that they are hopefully interested enough to visit your website in the future, or stay at your website to find out more information.

Now I know my good looks and pleasing personality and lovely Australian accent make me an enticing easy sell to viewers, but if your not fortunate enough to possess all these traits don’t despair!!

All jokes about my “good looks” aside take a look at some videos (do a search on google for 50 million hits, and see if you can find me on page 1!)

If someone like me can produce something like that, then surely you can. Maybe you actually found my website from a video. If so, how’s that? Proof that video works that’s what!

And if not, remember this. Youtube alone has tens of thousands of videos played EVERY day, think about the number of people who are visiting that website, that’s a lot of people, and because people can search by category they can find your video.

Don’t ignore a potential goldmine here! Part of being success as a marketer on the internet means you need to ensure your grabbing as big a share of traffic as you can. It doesn’t make any sense to ignore this market does it? In fact it doesn’t make sense to ignore any traffic strategies (within reason) does it?

Camtasia is the product that I use for all my video presentations, and it is so simple to use and easy to setup, you just can’t go wrong. About the only thing I can complain about is that there is not a mac version.

If your interested in Video on your website but the price of Camtasia is a little too much for you, consider Easy Web Video (the name of the product).

It’s a simple way to get Video on your website in next to no time!I also have a real video recorder that I use from time to time, it just takes a little investment of time to find out about the technology (how to convert file formats, etc) but once you have that information, your good to go.

Camtasia has the ability to link into a webcam, which really makes it a neat solution. In fact that is how I did the Video on the front page.

Now the next problem you may face is uploading videos to the various video services. Like search engines they are many video websites, and it can take some time to individually upload videos to each site, ensure they are working, etc.

I found, in my online travels a very useful video service. This one is not a website, but an actual software product. Unfortunately the package is not free, but the good thing about it is that it will allow you to upload your videos to multiple sites quickly and easily and automatically by using the software on your desktop.

Check out Video Upload Pro.

Of course, you don’t need to use automated software; you can still do it yourself, but keep them in mind if you find that you are wasting lots of time doing manually what could be done automatically.Hopefully I have convinced you that you need to be using video content on your website. It’s a fantastic web site traffic promotion.

Search Engines Rewards Links To Your Web Site With Massive Traffic

The search engines look very favorably on websites that have an incoming link from a prominent website, where that website does not link back to the other site (This is not surprisingly called a one way link). It’s also known more commonly as a backlink.
The search engines as a rule give less importance to a website involved in two way linking (where both websites link to each other) since this has been abused so much in the past by webmasters seeking to achieve high search engine rankings.

There is still a benefit with two way links especially if you are linking to a prominent site so if your only choice to link to a prominent website is by linking back to them from your website, by all means do it. Just remember if you can get them to link back to you only (one way link) it will be more beneficial to your search engine rankings.

Remember that the website you are linking to (or getting one way links from) should have content related to the content on your website.

One way links are far and away the best way to boost your rankings in the search engines, ultimately bringing you more traffic as more people find your website in the search engine results.

The more “important” (from the point of view of the search engines) the site that is linking to you is, the better, and this is what separates the men from the boys in relation to search engine rankings.

One good way to get the ball rolling is to submit articles to article directories (see the Articles Directory article for specific information). The key here is to make sure the article directory you are submitting has itself got a good page ranking with Google.

It’s very important to ensure that your one-way links have related content to your site. Even if it’s coming from a high ranking page, if your incoming link is from a website selling cars, and your selling flowers on your website, it’s unlikely to help you much. If however your site was all about car tyres then the link would be far more likely to provide a benefit to you in search engine rankings.

The more one-way links you can get from relevant, trusted (in the eyes of the search engines) and quality content sites the better. Remember that a single quality one way link will probably provide more of a benefit to your website than be 20-30 low quality links (un-trusted, sub-quality, not entirely relevant content to your website, or combinations of these problems).

The other thing you will definitely want to do is to mix-up your anchor text from these one-way links (Anchor text is the text shown on screen for a link to your website).

Wherever possible you will want to try and control what is in the anchor text on these sites (obviously this will not be possible some times because it’s not your website, however I’ve found many web masters are happy to help).

You definitely don’t want to have the same anchor text for many incoming links from many websites as this can set a red flag to the search engines, who may well rate your website less importance because they believe you may be manipulating the results (I’m not saying that the anchor text for every one way link needs to be unique, just that you should ensure you have a number of combinations of them in use).

You want to have your best keyword phrases in use with your incoming links, but use a lot of variation and even just some regular links (just your domain name in the anchor text) will help keeping things natural.

The other thing you want to do is be sure to not always link to your root directory of your website, but rather directly to articles, etc. This allows your incoming link to be targeted for a particular page.

For example with overwhelmingtraffic.com I have submitted articles to various article directories that are a subset of a more comprehensive article. In this case I’ve chosen to link from the article directory article direct to the more compressive article on my website. I’ve also ensured that the article is not just a duplicate, since search engines dislike duplicate content and will mark down your websites importance if duplicate content is found.

Of course one way links to your website will not only boost your website’s search engine rankings, but it will also bring traffic to your site.

Start slowly and build up the links over time, you will find your likely to get far better results doing it this way, and that it’s also more likely that your great search engine rankings are likely to “stick” in the future.

Who Would Have Thought That Answering Questions Would Drive Visitors To Your Website?

There are websites that provide questions and answers for a huge variety of subjects. This is a goldmine of information just waiting to be used.

A user on one of these Question and Answer web sites can submit a “question” on a particular subject and other users of the Question and Answer web site can provide answers to it and the answers can be voted on (and then sorted by) relevance (more votes meaning more relevance). All the responses can be viewed online.

These Question and Answer web sites can generate you great amounts of traffic if you can answer questions in your area of expertise (it goes without saying that you need to ensure that your answering Questions that are related to your particular niche on the Internet).

Yahoo have a Question and Answer website that offers a complete question and answer service and it’s very useful to use to get your name out there and known to people.

You do certainly need to be careful about what you post. Don’t expect to be able to just post a URL and get masses of traffic, you will find your “answer” voted down or even removed if you do this.

As I have mentioned numerous times, providing great quality and relevant content will be far more valuable. Actually helping people out (by answering their question) will show you to be an “expert” in your market in no time flat.

The rules generally specify no “soliciting”, so answer the question and help someone out, with a detailed answer and then add a reference to your website for people to follow up for more information.

The other great reason to use Question and Answer sites (particularly Yahoo given that Google is not accepting new questions and answers) is that lots of websites syndicate the questions and answers for content on their website.

As I mentioned above, Questions and Answers can also appear in search engine results. Of course the other benefit is that users of the question and answer sites themselves will get to your website from reading your responses.

Personally in my experience I treat the answering of questions as building up a presence on the Internet rather than a source of huge traffic to my websites, however it is certainly something that should not be ignored.

With that said, I believe it can be a great “return on investment” where for a relatively small amount of time invested (to answer questions) you can get a steady trickle of web traffic.

Are You Making The Most Of Getting Track From Other Search Engines?

One of the things I see lots of Internet Marketers doing is putting their full focus on Google and their search engine rankings, to the exclusion of all other search engines.

At first glance this makes sense because Google do have by far the largest market share i.e. more people use Google for finding what they want on the Internet than any other search engine.

However because more people use it, more advertisers are drawn to it and advertise with Google, so this often brings more competition, and more cost to advertise.

Have you ever considered focusing on some of the less prominent search engine? Or at least putting some focus on them?

Yahoo and MSN are two examples of search engines that still get a considerable number of people using them (obviously not to the level Google does) however, it some cases I have researched there is little and if your really lucky no competition for paid advertising with these search engines in particular niches.

That’s right, it is possible to be the only paid advertiser for a given niche. Of course this can change at any time, and people will get savvier about this as the word gets around.

Imagine if you can get your website listed prominently in these search engines result pages, but also advertising your website using their paid advertising!

Now you will obviously want to ensure you’re also using Google, and focusing on getting good rankings in their search engines results, but don’t ignore these other search engines.

One thing I tell people is to try and bring in as much traffic as you can from as many sources as possible.

I mean would you be happy with 1000 visitors to a day when it quite possibly to increase this by 100% or more by using some of the other traffic sources outlined on this website?

You want as many visitors as possible, don’t you. Sure you want them to be targeted and qualified visitors, and not just random people surfing by (unless you have a fantastic product that everyone in the world would want). If you have such a product let me know, I’d probably want to invest in your company!.

It just takes a little vision to expand your horizons. I tell people to spend some time looking at the larger picture and working out where you want your website to be. Always focus on what your site is or looks like from a visitor’s perspective. Great content that is relevant to the visitor will ramp up your sales in no time flat!

Make sure you look into other search engines, there could be a gold nugget just waiting for you to come along and mine!

I mean would you be happy with 1000 visitors to a day when it quite possibly to increase this by 100% or more by using some of the other traffic sources listed in this course?

You want as many visitors as possible, don’t you. Sure you want them to be targeted and qualified visitors, and not just random people surfing by (unless you have a fantastic product that everyone in the world would want.

If you have such a product let me know, I’d probably want to invest in your company!).

The other reason for using other search engines (and other sources of web traffic in general) is not to have all your eggs in one basket.

I have a client who came to me because his Google Adwords advertisements were pulled by Google because they were deemed not relevant.

He went from around $1000 a day income to zero because he had not put any time into generating other sources of traffic or getting his website listed more prominently in the search engines.

All I can is Ouch! No one wants to experience a drop in income, but a 100% drop literally overnight, now that was nasty!

Once I showed him how to optimise his website for optimum search engine rankings and how to generate more traffic from other sources (as outlined in these lessons) his entire world changed!

Suddenly he was no longer reliant solely on paid advertising and actually steadily built up his website with relevant and decent content and as a result he is now pulling in anything up to $3000+ per day (when I last checked in with him).

Of course it was not an overnight change, it took some work and some building, but it was well worth it to him in the end.

And what’s more he can rest easy knowing that not all his eggs are in the one basket and that one advertising problem in a particular area will not drop all his income.

Of course building his site back up with a solid ranking in the search engines didn’t happen overnight. If it was easy to do everyone would do it, but with a little direction you can get there!

Another web traffic lesson bites the dust. See you in a few days with the next one!

There are websites that provide questions and answers for a huge variety of subjects. This is a goldmine of information just waiting to be used or “mined!”.

Google had a question and answer site that can still be viewed, but that is no longer accepting questions (so you wont be able to answer any questions on that site until it’s re-opened – At the time I was writing this chapter there was still no ETA on when or indeed if this will happen).

Fortunately there are other alternatives.

Don’t try and forward to a sales page! It’s likely your answer will be deleted!

The other great reason to use Question and Answer sites (particularly Yahoo given that Google is not accepting new questions and answers) is that lots of websites syndicate the questions and answers for content on their website.

I’ve seen automated software that will actually allow you to automatically seed a new forum you setup by automatically providing usernames, posts (questions and answers). Guess where they often get their content?

Yes you guessed it from these type of sites, so this is a way for you to get more references in search engine results and links to your website.

Just to make it clear what happens. You post an answer to a question on a web site.

This site (and your answer) will eventually get indexed by the search engines, and your website will have a link from a great resource (the question and answer web-site).

Over time other web sites may put your posts onto their web-sites, giving you more links. Fantastic!

Along a similar vein to Questions and Answer sites, how-to sites such as eHow are a great way to get your name out there.

These sites give you just that a “how-to” do something on a huge range of subjects. The idea here is that you become an expert by writing the “how-to” which will bring people to your website.

Some unscrupulous people will both post questions and answer themselves in Questions and Answers and “how-to” web sites. Make no mistake you will eventually get caught out doing this (and let’s face it, it’s bad karma, right?).

These type of web-sites are getting better all the time in finding out about these types of breaches. Just stick to helping out people as much as possible in your given niche and building up a strong name as an expert in your particular area of expertise.

I hope you enjoyed this lesson, I’ll be back in a few days with the next one.

The search engines look very favourably on websites that have an incoming link from a prominent website, where that website does not link back to the other site (This is not surprisingly called a one way link). Also known as a backlink.

One good way to get the ball rolling is to submit articles to article directories (see the Articles Directory chapter for specific information). The key here is to make sure the article directory you are submitting has itself got a good page ranking with Google.

You can easily check this by finding the number of links to the site in question by the following command (in the Google search box).

site:www.domain.com

In the above example replace domain with the actual domain of the Article Directory you are searching for.

One great way to increase your ranking is to get a link from a .EDU domain and a DMOZ.

A .EDU domain is considered very “trusted” by the search engines, as is the DMOZ.

The more one-way links you can get from relevant trusted (in the eyes of the search engines) and quality content sites the better.

For example with overwhelmingtraffic.com.

I have submitted articles to various article directories that are a subset of a more comprehensive article.

In this case I’ve chosen to link from the article directory article direct to the more compressive article on my website.

I’ve also ensured that the article is not just a duplicate, since search engines dislike duplicate content and will mark down your websites importance if duplicate content is found.

Of course one way links to your website will not only boost your website’s search engine rankings, but you will also get traffic from the site in question as well.

DMOZ (A directory run by volunteers under the Open Directory project,) is a site that would be a great place to get listed.

It’s often hard to get your site listed there because there is a human checking each submission. One possible way to get listed on the website is to offer your services as an editor as this gives you increased privileges to categorise content, etc.

With that said you would want to ensure you do the right thing, and not just abuse the position to get your site listed.

Be fair and honest with any editorial work, and it may be wise to build up some credibility by looking at other website submissions and providing editorial duties on those.

Once you have done that for a while you will have built up the confidence others have in you, and will be to approve your own submissions.

To be absolutely fair and ethical it would be a good idea to get another editor to approve your submissions, but having built up credibility with the work you have performed, you submission will likely be seen in a very positive light (assuming the content is relevant and of good quality).

Start thinking about where you would like to have links incoming from, get onto the search engines and look at the results that come up in the search engines results for your keywords, take the time to review their sites, check out their page rankings, etc using the various tools (remembering to ensure you also check the cached version of websites as well as the current one).

Advertising on competitors website is a possibility if you have researched the website and it is reputable, has relevant and great quality content.

Providing services to the website is another way to get your foot in the door (or a link from that site to yours), offering them affiliate status on your website so they can sell your services and receive a commission is always a good way to grab a link.

If you have a brand new site, it actually pays to do this slowly to avoid setting off any alarms with the search engines. The search engines can rank your website of lower importance if it finds a dramatic increase in links (even important ones) than it found the last time your website was indexed, or in the case of a first time index of your site finding large numbers of links.

Start slowly and build up the links over time, you will find your likely to get far better results doing it this way, and that it’s also more likely that your great search engine rankings are likely to “stick” in the future.

Back in a few days with another web-traffic lesson.

Now Video is a very effective way to attract literally gobs of traffic (is gobs a word?).

Before I continue, have you checked out my new video course? I actually show you step by step how to use video for web traffic, everything from the software you need to create video, the types of video you should be using, how to do keyword research and more. Completely free.

Check it out at right here

The human mind thinks in pictures, so a good video will “stick in the mind” of people generally, particularly if it a little “out there” and different to some of the boring video “sales pitches” that are easy to find online. Of course the Video should offer relevant and useful content to the viewer as well, so make sure that it is interesting and fun to watch as well as being relevant.

As I’ve stated previously, relevant and useful content is vital to your success. If your website is all about dog training, and the video you produce is about computers, well your probably not going to get a great response are you? Unless you happen to be selling a method to train dogs to use computers, in which case that would be a great idea! Showing a dog “typing” on a computer!

It’s vital that you provide relevant and useful content and give the viewer a reason to take action (hopefully visiting your site). Once they get to your website (assuming the video is posted on YouTube or another video content sites) then your other marketing methods kick into gear.

I did something a little funny on youtube, I created a short video about receiving 10 million hits to your website.

To find it, do a search on google for “50 million hits”. You will find it on page 1!

Just look at how many times that video has been played! Incredible and more people are watching it every day.

Obviously you can also place Video on your website in which case it’s more of an “added-value” to keep the visitor on your website. That said more and more Internet Marketers are “getting” Video, in fact you will see that I have used Video on my web-site.

The use of Video includes things like uploading content to youtube.com (you have heard of them, right? Google paid $1.3Billion dollars to buyout the company!). Every man (and his dog) is uploading video content to YouTube, so why not you?

Now if you not as good looking as me don’t worry you can still make a successful video. You see the video doesn’t necessarily need to show you in the picture; it could be a PowerPoint presentation, a web page presentation, or demonstration of some software.

Of course it could actually be video of yourself doing what you do best. Remember relevance, and great quality content is the key here.

What you are trying to do is capture the interest of the viewer. You need to make a connection with him/her so that they are hopefully interested enough to visit your website in the future, or stay at your website to find out more information.
Now I know my good looks and pleasing personality and lovely Australian accent make me an enticing easy sell to viewers, but if you’re not fortunate enough to possess all these traits don’t despair!!

All jokes about my “good looks” aside take a look at those videos. If someone like me can produce something like that, then surely you can. Maybe you actually found my website from a video.

If so, how’s that? Proof that video works that’s what!

So how do you upload the video to YouTube? Good question, thanks for asking!

Well luckily it’s very easy to do, just go to YouTube.com and register and follow the prompts! It’s really quite easy to do.

Now video content is not just for YouTube, think about when visitors get to your website.

If you’re like me you learn things much quicker by seeing first, and then copying. Often it’s hard to visualize what words are telling you to do, videos make it so much easier don’t they!

Camtasia is the product that I use for all my video presentations, and it is so simple to use and easy to setup, you just can’t go wrong. About the only thing I can complain about is that there is not a mac version.

I also have a real video recorder that I use from time to time, it just takes a little investment of time to find out about the technology (how to convert file formats, etc) but once you have that information, your good to go.

Camtasia has the ability to link into a webcam, which really makes it a neat solution.

Now the next problem you may face is uploading videos to the various video services. Like search engines they are many video websites, and it can take some time to individually upload videos to each site, ensure they are working, etc.

Wouldn’t it be great to have a service that offered the ability to upload once, and automatically upload to all major video sites? Remember that automation really is the nirvana of web marketers, the more things you can automate the more time you have to spend on other things!

I received an email the other day (yes I am on someone else’s auto-responders list!), which told me about a product I was not even aware of.

Here is a website where you can do what I indicated above, upload your video to it, and then the website itself sends your video to all the major video sites automatically. How useful is that? You even get a report confirming the status of every upload (success, failure, etc). And it’s all so simple to use.

I highly recommend these guys if you want to save time and get automation and leverage to be your two best friends. Do you really want to be spending hours uploading to all the video sites when you could literally upload once, set and forget, and check back later in the day to ensure it had all completed?

Just think of the extra productivity you could have by using the time you would have wasted doing it manually. It’s a no brainer to me! the name of the product is Traffic Geyser.

I also found, in my travels another useful video service. This one is not a website, but an actual software product. Unfortunately the package is not free, but the good thing about it is that it will allow you to upload your videos to multiple sites quickly and easily and automatically by using the software on your desktop.

Do a search for Video Upload Pro.

Of course, you don’t need to use the web-service or the automated software above, you can still do it yourself, but keep them in mind if you find that you are wasting lots of time doing manually what could be done automatically.

Hopefully I have convinced you that you need to be using video content on your website, the next thing to address is what exactly needs to be in the video.

If you got the chance to look at my video’s on YouTube it should have given you some ideas on what to include.

Essentially I have an opening scene with the name of the video and the website URL which sits there for a few seconds, before moving into the message. At the end of the video I have another visual of the website, with a call to action/incentive for the viewer to come take a look!

Remember that with video you don’t get a physical link to click, so you need to encourage the viewer to get to your website.

You will notice that I have approached the videos on YouTube with the point of view of SOLVING A PROBLEM FOR THE VIEWER, giving them something useful in the video, and enticing them with an offer of “more of the same” when they get to the website.

Of course this all needs to be true, because if you do manage to get them to visit your website, and it’s not as you made it out to be, then the viewer will click away faster than you can say… Well let’s just say it will just be very, very fast.

One useful technique you can use when producing a video is to pretend you are the viewer, try to think about what would you want to see, how would you feel after viewing it, does it appeal to you, does it give you something useful?

Remember we need to generate sufficient interesting and appealing content to allow the viewer to write down your website address from the video and enter it into a browser.

Make your videos useful, interesting, and I suggest put some comedy into it, everyone (well most people) love a laugh, especially when people are making fun of themselves, and it makes your video stand out a little from the crowd.
It’s also vital that your websites URL is as short as possible. The longer the URL the greater the chance the viewer is going to write it down incorrectly and then not get to your website.

So if you’re selling affiliate products for example, it’s far better to link to your website and then re-direct to the affiliate site, rather than having a very long URL to remember.

Remember also the golden rule about potential customers, you want to capture their email address and name so you can put them on your mailing list, so this is another reason to link to your website first.

With your videos, experiment, no one is perfect, and I don’t think people really expect absolute perfection, try a new video and gauge the response to it, learn from the process, re-shoot and try again! And watch your traffic increase. I’m sure I get traffic from my Videos purely because people think I am a nut and want to see if I actually do have a website. Either way they are getting to the website, right?

Video is another way to differentiate you from the crowd (your competitors). Most webmasters don’t use it!

One of the really cool things I like about Camtasia that is not in the free clone is the ability to automatically redirect to a sales/promotional page after the video finishes. The viewer watches the video, and then gets taken to a page with more information. Pure genius.

Well that’s it for Video, I hope I have convinced you to consider putting it into your web traffic arsenal!.

Until next time, keep that traffic coming and I’ll talk to you soon.
